Shōnishin Was developed in response to the needs of children. It is a needle-free technique that’s also known as paediatric acupuncture (acupuncture for children) and is predominately used for children from birth to 12 year’s old. In some cases, a form of Shōnishin can also be used for adults who have a fear of needles or are not able to have acupuncture needles used on them. This gentle technique is performed using a rounded / blunt tool called a Daishi instrument. This tool is rhythmically stroked, tapped and pressed along the child’s skin calming and balancing the energy as needed. Shōnishin treatments are generally much shorter in duration than acupuncture for adults and children generally remain clothed or just waring a nappy if very young.
